How to Add a Countdown Timer to Your Website (No Plugin)
A countdown timer on a page does one thing well: it makes a deadline visible. The good news is you do not need a plugin, a subscription, or a developer to add one — the whole trick is a single iframe snippet that carries your countdown's settings in its URL. This guide walks through generating the code and pasting it into the four places people actually build pages.
Quick answer: Generate an iframe snippet from the website countdown generator, then paste it into an HTML block on your platform: WordPress (Custom HTML block), Shopify (Custom Liquid section), Wix (Embed HTML), Squarespace (Code Block), or anywhere in raw HTML. It takes about two minutes and no plugin.
Step 1 — Generate the snippet
Open the website countdown generator, set your title ("Sale ends in", "We're live in"), target date or duration, color, and size. The preview shows exactly what visitors will see, and the code box holds the finished snippet — a one-line iframe whose src points at the embed route with your settings encoded.
Step 2 — WordPress
- In the block editor, add a Custom HTML block where the countdown should appear
- Paste the iframe snippet
- Preview — the countdown renders immediately; publish when it looks right
- For widget areas: add a Custom HTML widget and paste the same snippet
Step 3 — Shopify
- In the theme editor, add a Custom Liquid section (or an HTML block inside an existing section)
- Paste the iframe snippet and save
- For product pages: add the section to the product template so every product page shows the deadline
Step 4 — Wix, Squarespace & raw HTML
- Wix: Add → Embed → Embed HTML widget, paste, resize the box to the countdown's height
- Squarespace: add a Code Block, paste the snippet
- Raw HTML: paste anywhere between your page's tags — the iframe is self-contained
Iframe or script snippet?
The iframe is the default because it is sandboxed: your page's CSS cannot break the countdown and vice versa, and every builder that allows embeds allows iframes. The script version renders inline — no border, flows with your content — and suits cases where you need the countdown to sit inside your own markup exactly. Both are generated from the same form.
Timezone honesty (the part most guides skip)
A countdown computed on the server shows one timezone's midnight to everyone — which is why visitors far from you see a sale "end" hours early or late. The embed here computes on each visitor's device: set the target in your store's timezone and state it in your copy ("ends 11:59 PM ET"), and every visitor sees the true remaining time in theirs.
